Michelin starred chef Shaun Rankin is a renowned, published chef with TV accolades and a passion for the fresh produce of the Channel Islands where he resides


Yorkshire born Shaun Rankin honed his skills at The Mayfair Hotel in London and attended the Thames Valley University at Slough. He returned to Yorkshire in 1992, after three years in London, and took a position as chef de partie at the Black Bull Inn in Moulton.


Since then he has worked in restaurants as close to home as Darlington and as far afield as Chicago and Australia.


Shaun has spent the majority of his career in Jersey, Channel Islands. He spent eight years at prestigious Relais & Chateaux Hotel Longueville Manor, followed by the establishment’s sister restaurant Sumas.


He then opened Bohemia restaurant as head chef in 2003 and gained his first Michelin star in 2005. Shaun is highly acclaimed and ranked as "a chef at the top of his game” in the prestigious Good Food Guide and described as “masterful” and “a champion of Jersey produce” by Square Meal.


In 2009 Shaun represented the southwest in the fourth series of BBC Two's Great British Menu. His winning dish was Treacle Tart with Jersey clotted cream and raspberry ripple coulis.


Since appearing on national TV he has also made many further appearances on popular cookery show Saturday Kitchen and Meet What You Eat for Channel 4.


In 2010 Shaun launched his own food range in partnership with Cimandis in the Channel Islands. He also embarked on more TV work and filmed his first series ‘Shaun Rankin’s Island Feast’ with ITV.


Shaun launched his first recipe book ‘Shaun Rankin’s Seasoned Islands’ in 2011.


The book includes over 75 of his recipes and stunning imagery of all the Channel Islands. His recipes also feature in ‘Yes Chef!’, ‘Nigel Haworth’s Obsession’ and alongside the calibre of Michel Roux Jr and Raymond Blanc in ‘The Good Food Guide Recipes’.


In June 2011, Shaun represented Britain in Tasmania at the major food festival Savour Tasmania. He has also appeared at prestigious UK food events such as Taste London, Southampton Boat Show and Dorset Seafood Festival.


He is one of the original Great British Chefs, alongside a number of renowned peers including Marcus Wareing, Nuno Mendes and Tom Aikins, and appears on four of their top selling Apps and website which is the ultimate destination for all foodies.


2012 was a packed year for Shaun internationally with the pinnacle being a pop up restaurant at The Dorchester, London. He cooked a Jersey inspired menu alongside Brian Hughson for a week in May receiving rave reviews and sell out services.


Shaun left his post at Bohemia in January 2013 after nine years at the helm to focus on his own venture. In May 2013 he opened the highly-anticipated ‘Ormer’ restaurant bringing a sophisticated restaurant, bars and private dining venue to the centre of St Helier, Jersey.


The restaurant is commended in the Good Food Guide and received its first Michelin star only four months after opening in September 2014. In January 2014, Ormer was additionally accredited with 3 AA rosettes, later on in the year the business was named ‘Best Newcomer’ at the coveted Food and Travel Magazine Awards 2014.


The restaurant was also shortlisted for Food and Travel Magazine ‘Restaurant of the Year - Outside London’ 2016.


In December 2013 Shaun opened his own delicatessen ‘Don Street Deli’ adjacent to the acclaimed restaurant Ormer Jersey. The Deli offers luxury retail products sourced from all over Europe and fresh artisan food offerings.


In December 2014 Shaun was selected to set up the food and beverage offering of elite members club 12 Hay Hill in London Mayfair.


In March 2016 Shaun began his partnership with the luxury Flemings Mayfair hotel as part of a £15million refurbishment programme. The boutique hotel’s sophisticated 85-cover restaurant, Ormer Mayfair, opened on 20th September 2016. It takes inspiration from the shores of Jersey, introducing island produce to London diners. Flemings Mayfair is one of the oldest family-owned hotels in London. Part of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World, the award-winning hotel offers unrivalled luxury accommodation in one of London’s most prestigious neighbourhoods.

Shaun and Ormer Mayfair played a starring role in 2017 Masterchef UK when the restaurant became a location for the programme. The contestants were put to the test in the professional kitchen under the careful guidance of Shaun Rankin.

His new venture with Flemings Mayfair hotel runs alongside his current Jersey restaurant Ormer and Don Street Deli.
